Planning Your Own Potluck Wedding Reception

A common wedding has two main parts: ceremony and reception. The wedding ceremony is very important because during it, the happy couple swears eternal love and promises to take care of one another no matter what. The vows, the ring exchange etc. symbolize that the pair is ready to commit and to become one. But the wedding reception is not to be neglected either. Tradition says that every big event should be celebrated properly, so the reception is like a recognition of this fact. Nowadays, there are different ways of planning a reception. You can choose to have a caterer or a potluck reception, if we are talking about a smaller wedding.

Planning your own potluck wedding reception is not very complicated and if you are kind enough to keep reading, I am going to give you some tips on how to do it well. First of all, announce the out-of town guests that it is not necessary they bring a dish. It would be hard for them to cook and travel, so be sympathetic. For your local guests, remember to let them know that the food is a replacement of the wedding gift, so they should worry about what to get you. Also, ask them to share with you the recipes. This way you will enrich your cooking portfolio and everyone will be satisfied.

Although, a potluck wedding reception is supposed to be fun and stress-free, you might reconsider some issues. For example, supply your kitchen with some additional food just in case. What if the food breaks down and the party isn’t over yet? You should have a back-up plan in order to prevent your guests from starving. And there is the possibility that not all your guests cook as well or as good as you do. People have different tastes, so it is normal not to eat something if it is too salty, or to greasy. Make sure that you have cold drinks, water and fresh fruit, especially if it is summer. Trust me your guests will be thanking you all day long.

As I said before, make sure that you have additional food. But think about your friends or relatives who are on a diet or are vegetarians. Some vegetable appetizers, fruit, salads etc. will be definitely appreciated by the “minority”. Having a potluck wedding reception is a great idea when you don’t intend to invite many people. An intimate reception is much more suitable, and everyone will enjoy themselves because it will be like a bigger family reunion during which everyone contributes to something. For me, the celebration is more enjoyable and meaningful when it is experienced with the persons I care about.

Planning your own potluck wedding reception is fun and wonderful because it gets you out of cooking or hiring a caterer. The costs off your wedding will be visible diminished and you will have the opportunity to spend them on a longer honeymoon. In the end, what matters the most is that you and your guests feel good and enjoy these beautiful moments.
