Planning A Christian Wedding

The subject of religion has been discussed in many terms by many people who have tried to elucidate this problem. But I am not going to start a debate about this, but rather try to understand better the diversity of the humankind. Because of this diversity, there are many religions, many peoples, different races and so on, that have to mix and co-exist in order to live in peace. The religion spread all over the world  is Christianity, and that is why  this article is going to be about planning a Christian wedding.

When planning a Christian wedding ,we talk about communion, but not a communion of two but rather of three, because the happy couple commit to each other and  they both commit, as a couple to God. God plays an important part in a person’s life and when two persons get married, they need God’s approval in order to begin a new life under His protection.

The first step to be taken is to choose your officiate. If you go to church often and you like your home church minister, you can pick him to perform the ceremony. If you have another location in mind, feel free to search for one of the best minister of that location. Anyway the most important thing is for you to be comfortable with the one officiating your marriage.

After this, discuss the wedding requirements with your officiate. Many consider that a period of  premarital counseling is welcomed in order to familiarize the couple with the sanctity of marriage and God’s place in their married life. In the meantime, you can select the Biblical verse that will be read at the ceremony. Some suggestions are  I Corinthians 13, Ephesians 5:21-33, Colossians 3:12-17 and Genesis 2:24. Of course these are not compulsory. More important is whether they express your feelings or believes. While selecting a Biblical verse, you can also seek for a prayer or  hymn that will be sung after the bride is given away. Some couples may choose for a friend to read a special Bible verse that he feels is representative for the happy couple.

Another important and significant moment is the choosing or writing of the vows. These vows are very important in the Christian wedding ceremony because they represent a testimony of love. They have to embody the couple’s love and commitment to one another in front of God, witnesses, friends and family. Nowadays, many couples express their desire of writing their own vows because they feel that just saying  a simple “I love you” can be more personal than  an entire page of  meaningless promises.

The ceremony ends with the exchange of rings, the lightning of  a symbolic unity candle and the pronouncement of the two as husband and wife.

The Christian wedding ceremony is not as complicated as the catholic one for example, but is as meaningful and important. Getting married to the person you love, promising to be with him/her for “better or for worse” is a special moment for everybody. The complexity and symbolism of this event, can truly be understood by the couple who had lived it , so I wish you to experience this as soon as possible.
