Planning A Catholic Wedding

Religion has always been an important, yet complicated subject in people’s lives. The existence of many religions, the matter of whose religion is right, if there really is only one God and many other questions, torment many of us. Nowadays, the variety of religions has spread and mixed and, because we live in democratic times, everyone has the right to have his/her own belief. In this article, I am going to present briefly the catholic religion, focusing mainly on details that are going to help you when planning a Catholic wedding.

The Catholic religion is a branch of the Christian religion, and its goal is to spread the gospel of Christ and promoting charity. The Catholic Church is the most powerful religious institution and stands among the oldest institutions of this type, being led by the Pope.

Getting married and embracing this religion requires time and will, because if you are not Catholic, but you marry a Catholic person, be sure that things will change in your family and you will have to accept them because they will become part of your family and implicitly part of you.

When planning a Catholic wedding, you have to bare in mind some details. First of all you have to prepare for your wedding. Ok, we know that, everybody does it, you would say. But this is not about the material preparation (catering, flowers, photographer and so on). This is about your spiritual preparation and consists in various days or weekends in a peaceful place, along with your partner, in the company of priest or deacon. In this period of time you will be presented with the meanings of marriage and you will have to put in balance your present life with the future married life. After considering every aspects of your life, you may proceed to establishing a date for your happy day.

Choosing a date for your marriage is also an important element because you are advised to avoid to get married on major civic holidays, major sporting events, graduation weekends or the weekend before April 15 when is tax day.

Furthermore, you have to choose between the Rite of the Marriage with Mass and  the Rite of the Marriage Outside Mass. The Rite of Marriage with Mass is the perfect solution for when both bride and groom are Catholic. It typically lasts between 45 and 90 minutes and reflects commitment and Jesus’ sacrifice. The second Rite is destined for the persons who are not Catholic, but marry a Catholic person. Here the mass lasts between 20 minutes and an hour, depending on the reading, music, procession etc.

Other elements refer to choosing Scriptures readings, wedding music, vows and the roles of family and friends (you decide who are the witnesses, ushers, musicians etc.)

From this brief presentation you can observe that planning a Catholic wedding can be rather difficult, because it implies a lot of hard work and attention to details. However, if the result of your hard work is a positive one, you can easily forget about all the stressful moments and enjoy your wedding day.
