Planning A 40th Wedding Anniversary

Every time I hear someone is celebrating a wedding anniversary I get really happy and instantly offer to help. Wedding anniversaries are always welcomed, because they represent the love and commitment that has survived between the two partners for so many years. Especially if we are talking about 20, 30 or 40 years of marriage.

Planning a 40th wedding anniversary, for example is an interesting and special event which is going to be discussed further on. As a starting point, when planning a 40th wedding anniversary, don’t forget the color of the party. A 40th wedding anniversary is also known as a 40th ruby wedding anniversary, so the predominant color should be ruby red. Rubies are believed to have a very powerful inner flame which stands as the symbol of the love and passion that is still alive after 40 years of marriage.

This being said, we move on to setting and decoration. After choosing the proper location for the party (at home, at a nice restaurant, in a beautiful garden, at a villa etc.), we focus on decorating the place. As a suggestion, you can try some red balloons, carefully arranged or if you opt for a classier party, a sophisticated floral arrangement made of red roses, begonias, tulips or orchids.

Remember to make a guest list, so that it would be easier when sending the invitations. For the invitations issue, you can consider preparing personalized ones. Choose the ones that have some red glitter on top or beautiful red flowers. Also, don’t forget to arrange the table with ruby red tablecloths, use china decorated with tiny little red trims or set red aromatic candles.

In what concerns the food and drinks for your anniversary, notify your caterer that you are planning a 40th wedding anniversary and ask him to suggest appropriate “items”. You can choose to have a beautiful white cake decorated with lots of red roses and a ruby red topping and you should definitely ask for a ruby red wine or sangria.

Your 40th wedding anniversary, can be a good time to renew your vows too. Add a little moment in your schedule and dedicate it to your spouse. Remind him or her why you fell in love 40 years ago and how you managed to get through all these years. As time passes by, couples tend to go into a routine that doesn’t do them any good and can sometimes ruin a relationship. This is why, celebrating 40 years of marriage is the right time to remind the one we love that we still respect and cherish him or her.

Last, the issue of making gifts at a 40th wedding anniversary should make us wonder. If you lack inspiration for these gifts, here are some suggestions: create a CD with the special songs from the time you got married, create a poem, written in red ink and display it proudly next to your family photos or assembly a photo album containing photos from different stages of your lives (marriage, children, grandchildren, trips, house etc.). You will definitely create a memorable event!
