Non traditional planning for a wedding

We concluded that many times more stressful than planning the wedding itself, is to cope with your family, friends and suppliers who try to convince you to incorporate into your wedding all the classical elements of a wedding. But if you choose an unconventional wedding, it is clear that your plan is to give up as many of the traditional elements and have a wedding as you want.




Why planning for a wedding in a non traditional manner is a bit harder than planning a normal one? Whether the reason that you don’t want a luxurious wedding, the lack of money or you are a flower power spirit, it’s better to find out that is quite hard planning for a wedding in non traditional manner. It’s very stressful to fight constantly to avoid typical wedding items that you find in stores and wedding planner and always explain, every time someone tries to sell you favors, flower baskets or cockades, you do not want at your wedding.
My suggestion is to call as little to companies that organize events, not to visit bridal fairs and specialty shops.

You can, instead, to find some art students, young, talented and open-minded, that understand your need and help you with unconventional favors, invitations, wedding dress or wedding photos. Not only you will have the wedding that you want, but everything will be unique, starting from invitations and favors and ending with the wedding gowns which not mandatory must be a white one.

What are the elements you want to keep? Maybe you promised your grandmother that whatever it is, you will marry in a white gown. Or maybe you like very much the classic wedding decorations. And still you want a non-traditional wedding. The solution is you decide in advance on the classic elements that you want to keep and those that you want to eliminate from your wedding.  Check with your partner, who may not share your vision of a hippie, so get ready for negotiations and compromises. Don’t impose by force, remember that the wedding day isn’t just the bride’s day, but is your both day! Be firm in decisions.

A wedding with very few classical elements is a concept very difficult to understand for suppliers who expect to win quite well after a big wedding, but also for your parents, who want a perfect wedding, not so much for you, but for the impression that will leave to the family friends, you know, that impression of a successfully happy marriage with all the traditions included.

Parents should understand that it is your day, with your guests and your plans and if they want to recreate the atmosphere of their wedding, they can do it on their wedding anniversary.  The more family celebrations, the better! Don’t be rough with them, but if you don’t want expensive flowers, chair covers or very distant relatives at your wedding, tell them in advance!

Leave the stress of a part. The whole idea of a non-traditional weddings is to feel good, comfortable, surrounded by people you love, great music and decorations that you enjoy doing. So, forget the stress and budget and get involved in the organization, do yourself the invitations or the favors and don’t let anyone or anything to ruin your good mood!
