Maybe you’ve seen in lots of wedding pictures, or you’ve seen at the weddings you attended: the children are really cute, especially when they have some important responsabilities. The children presence at wedding ceremonies is dating back to ancient times.

In Greek and Roman weddings, girls spread seeds and herbs in the way of the bride, symbol of wealth and fertility. In the Middle Ages, the bride was preceded by two young girls carrying bundles of wheat, they were also meant to keep the bride’s long trail. Nowadays, the sheaves were replaced by bouquets of wonderful flowers, baskets with rose petals or “bracelets” of flowers which are caught on the wrist.

The little members of the suite can be the bride’s nieces or her friends children. Also, if the bride is at the second wedding and she has children, is ideally to offer them some responsabilities in order to make them to understand better what’s a wedding about. The ideal age for a flower girl is between five and eight years. It is very important that someone in your family to watch them closely, the excess energy of children at this age being very well known. A rehearsal the night before big day proves very useful though, even in this case we can not say that unexpected events can be avoided: children are anxious, they can change their minds suddenly, they want to go to the bathroom capturing the full attention of participants at the event. Therefore, to avoid any inconvenience, roles must be as simple and short,  the baskets with rose petals should be given only before the procession begins.

Regarding their “outfit”, it is recommended to maintain the same style of the bridal dress. The dresses materials must be diaphanous: satin, organza, silk, tulle, or velvet (for weddings in cold seasons). Be sure to include some accessories such adored by little girls like ribbons, colored bows on the waist or in hair, covered small buttons, pins, wreaths of flowers in their hair (symbol of innocence)… certainly they will feel important.
