Making Money As A Wedding Planner

“Money makes the world go round!” How true and yet how sad! Today, everyone wants to have more money, to live better, to afford at least 3 vacations a year, to have a nice car and a big house etc. Few are actually interested in other things except money. Because of this, the main majority focuses on jobs that could bring them fortunes. I did some research, and apparently, some of the most profitable careers are in marketing, medicine, wedding planning etc. (not in this particular order).

Making money as a wedding planner, for example, is not extremely difficult, although, like in any other field, the salary depends on the accumulated experience. First of all, a wedding planner is, after the bride, the most important person of the wedding. It may sound strange, but if we think about it, is true. Without a wedding planner, things would be so messed up that the whole event would be just a fiasco. The main duties of a wedding planner are to organize, coordinate, advice and guide the bride throughout the planning process.

Depending on her whishes, a bride can choose to hire a wedding planner for the entire planning period (full time coordinator), for advice regarding some elements she might have forgotten, or doesn’t know how to handle them or only on the wedding day (for the brides who want to enjoy the moment and let someone else worry about food, flowers, receiving vendors or entertainment).

Making money as a wedding planner also depends on certain qualities. A wedding planner has to be sincere, open, confident and especially calm. Without these features, there is a slight chance the relationship between the coordinator and bride functions.

As a said before, the salary of a wedding planner is in coordination with his or hers experience. Young wedding planners are less likely to have a huge salary at the beginning of their career. Usually, they take 10-15% of the wedding’s total sum, which means around $30,000 per year. If the wedding planner advances on the “social scale” he or she can receive even $70,000 yearly. As a free professional, a wedding coordinator can earn approximately $100,000, after a long period of hard work, in which he/she has managed to gather a consistent portfolio of clients.

The easiest way to do this is, to assure your clients quality services. At first it will be hard, of course, but as people will start noticing how nice and calm you are, or how good and serious you do your job, the news will spread quickly, believe me.

Making money as a wedding planner is not very important (at a certain stage, of course, because you first do it for the money). When you are in a certain place where you can afford to do it for the pleasure of it, I recommend you don’t forget how you’ve started. Who knows what young wedding planner will thank you later that you had the inspiration to help him/her when he/she most needed?
